Having a walk in Lazise

Having a walk in lazise The lakeside promenade continues in Northern and Southern direction, creating a lovely walk along the beaches as far as Garda (8 km) and Peschera (10 km) – San Benedetto (12 km). Parallel to the beaches, following the first hills at approx. 500 m from the lake, a beautifully quiet road leads North to Bardolino (5 km) and South to Colà (4 km), Pacengo (5 km) and Castelnuovo (9 km).
Lazise has some very interesting churches.
The Church of SAN NICOLO' - this Romanesque church in the centre on the port dates back to the 13th century and has a simple, sober structure. The apse was reconstructed in 1595 and its bell tower
dates from the 18th century.

The Parish Church of SAN MARTINO was entirely reconstructed in neoclassical style between 1796 and 1840 on the site where the 14th Century Church of SAN ZENO once stood, of which nothing remains. The Church of SAN FAUSTINO AND GIOVITA is set in the countryside surrounding Mondragone and dates back to the 12th century, with restoration in the 17th century. It is private property and used only for family celebrations of one of Lazise's oldest families. The Church of SAN GIORGIO MARTYR was built in the 17th century on the remains of a Romanesque chapel.
Another interesting building is "LA DOGANA", the ancient Custom House on the port next to the church of San Nicolò. It was built in the first half of the 1300's, probably as an arsenal for the construction and maintenance of ships. In the 16th century it was used for he making of nitre, a component of gun powder, which was obtained by mixing certain components with sheep's urine: in fact, the sheep were kept in the dogana building. In 1607 it became a custom house for all wares in transit between Venice and Lombardy; it has recently been restored to full magnificence.

The Villa PERGOLANA, at the end of the boulevard in the direction of Cisano, was constructed in the 19th century in imitation Renaissance style on the site of an ancient monastery. Its grounds include the church of SANTA MARIA DELLE GRAZIE, built in the 16th century.
